Cowboys: Obviously they’re never too far away in Bowman. Thanks to the fast efforts of a true cowboy, Rollie Wilson, who rode on horseback to the rescue of an ornery bovine on Monday.
Other “cowhands” were on scene to help in the capture of the cow, which took a running tour of the city’s residential area from Highway 12 to Third Street Northwest, fleeing from Bowman Auction Market.
“(Wilson) more or less rescued me because I wasn’t going to get close to that thing,” said Bowman Police Chief Chuck Headley, who responded to the scene. Headley said the cow began to charge directly towards him but changed courses to cross the highway at the last moment.
“This cop can personally say the only way I want to deal with one of these is when it’s right off the grill in the form of a Porterhouse with sautéed mushrooms, baked potato and a garden salad,” he said in a Facebook post after the incident. (Photo by Bowman Police Dept.)
