The Bowman County School District faces an integral deadline at the end of this month as Feb. 29 marks the final day the district will accept applications for a new school superintendent.
Tony Duletski, who has served in that position for many years, will retire at the end of the present school year. The school board approved Duletski’s resignation last month.
The North Dakota School Boards Association was asked to assist the school board with the search by identifying and screening applicants. Interested parties submit applications directly to the association.
The amount of applicants won’t be known until next week, when a representative from the association presents the submitted applications to the Bowman County School Board during a special meeting scheduled for March 2.
At that point, the board will review the applicants and decide which it would like to interview.
Board President Kevin Bucholz said the board hopes to begin the interviewing process the following week.
A tour of the school’s campuses and of the community would accompany the interviews.
Bucholz has served as president of the school board for about nine years and, like most of the board, hasn’t had the opportunity to experience the hiring of a new superintendent.
Dan Peterson, according to Bucholz, is the only board member that has served on the board long enough to witness an incoming superintendent.
Because the position requires at least a Master’s Degree in administration, particularly as it relates to education, Bucholz said it is unlikely that the job search would include any potential candidates from the Bowman area.
“It would be unexpected,” he said.
The North Dakota School Boards Association posted specific information related to the position on its website, www.ndsba.org, where those interested could also apply.
The NDSBA indicated the position’s salary ranges from $90,000 to $120,000, depending on background and experience.
The benefits package for the job includes family health, dental, and disability insurance paid by the school district. The school district pays 20.5 percent of teachers’ fund for retirement with the superintendent paying 4 percent.
