It has been over two years now since our auto accident on Dec. 19, 2013.
As many of you know, the three of us were seriously injured in the accident, but Maija, then 10 years old, suffered a complete spinal cord injury, leaving her a paraplegic.
In the days, weeks, months, and now years since then, there has been an outpouring of concern and love the likes of which we have never seen before.
One of the expressions of that concern was the raising of funds to purchase what is called TEK-RMD, a motorized, robotic standing device that gives paraplegics mobility in ways that traditional devices, such as wheelchairs, cannot.
Recently, after a long wait for FDA approval, we received this device.
Although Maija is still learning to be comfortable in it, we are confident in our hope that soon, she will be using it extensively.
