LETTER: A fine example to us all

My wife and I decided to invite some friends of ours to Bowman on April 2 to have supper at the Hibachi House restaurant. We have dined there before and the food and the service have always been excellent.

When we arrived it was about 5:30 p.m., as we entered we noticed that they didn’t have all the empty tables in the front of the restaurant cleared yet so we went to the back portion of the restaurant in the next room and sat there. We had noticed when we came in that there were some high school kids that were dressed formal for their high school prom, and they were just paying and getting ready to go to the prom. We guessed that they must have had a large group before the prom.

As we sat and visited, we noticed people at other tables in the area were waiting as well for service, and visiting back and forth with them, we realized they all had been waiting for a while.

We all guessed that because of the prom, it may take a little more time for the staff to catch up.

A little more time went on, and then a young lady came up to our table and said, “I don’t know if you know this, but there is only one waitress working, and she is trying to handle everything in the restaurant by herself!” She then said she asked the waitress if she could help her by serving people’s drinks or delivering the food for her. The waitress agreed, and so this thoughtful young lady proceeded to help wait on everyone else.

As the evening progressed, everyone was served a wonderful meal and everyone was a little more patient realizing the circumstances.

I first want to congratulate the young lady who stepped forward and gave part of herself to help someone else, she was an inspiration to us all.

Also, I want to congratulate the waitress and the gentleman cooking who waited tirelessly on everyone and continued to be pleasant to everyone with smiles and apologies for the delays. You all displayed some very fine qualities about yourselves. I left that restaurant wishing that I would have thought to get up and help out as the young lady did, maybe the next time I will, and probably several others who witnessed will as well. Maybe what she did will get passed on.

Congratulations to the city of Bowman for having a great restaurant like Hibachi House, and great people in the community like the young lady who was a fine example to us all. We look forward to our next trip to Bowman.
