The 2016 season will serve as a memorable one for the Bulldogs.
Memorial Day weekend in Bismarck was the pivotal moment for the Bowman County Track and Field teams with the 2016 state meet seeing the Bulldogs break four more school records, crown two state runner-ups and four other state placers.
On the girl’s side, the high jumpers once again led the charge. Meggie Fischer, finished the day with a leap of 5 feet 1 inch, earning her second place. Ellie Stafford was close on her teammate’s heels, jumping 4 feet 11 inches for fourth place. Jillian Svihovec finished the season in 14th place. In the triple jump, Sophomore Cassidy Walby finished in 21st place.
On the track the girl’s 4×400-meter relay team consisting of Stafford, Maury Burke, Jenna Buchholz, and Alexius Miller ran a season best time of 4 minutes 17.62 seconds, placing 12th. As a team, the ladies finished in 17th place out of 46 teams.
The boy’s team relied heavily on the distance runners, and for good reason.
The boy’s 3,200-meter relay — Cole Osendorf, Brayden Miller, Alex Madrigal, Alex Bartholomay — set a new Bowman County School record with a time of 8 minutes, 20.27 seconds, earning them second place. The 1,600-meter relay team — Madrigal, Adam Powell, Mathew Carlson, and Osendorf — placed sixth, also setting a new school record of 3 minutes 33.83 seconds.
In the individual events, the 1,600-meter was a highlight, as both Madrigal and Bartholomay raced to personal bests. Madrigal finished ninth with a blistering time of 4 minutes 38.73 seconds. Bartholomay reset his own Bowman County record in a time of 4 minutes, 29.34 seconds, placing fifth. Bartholomay’s weekend was only half over.
On Saturday he raced to a sixth place finish in the 3,200-meter run with a new school record time of 8:56.41. Bartholomay’s weekend ended with a 14th place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes 07.78 seconds.
Mathew Carlson rounded out the events for the Bulldogs, as he pole vaulted 11 feet, 10 inches to finish in 12th place.
