The primary election is officially over.
Bowman County’s Board of Canvassers met Monday to officiate the June 14 election results but had one lingering question to answer: would there be a recount for city commissioner?
Mindy Schumacher, deputy county auditor, said there would not be a recount, since it was not requested following the board’s meeting.
When election night came to a close, there was a possibility that candidate Dan Peterson, who ran for Bowman city commissioner, could order a recount since his margin with candidate Ryan Shear was within three votes. Peterson said at the time, however, that he would wait to hear the board’s results before making a decision.
The canvassers on Monday added a qualified absentee ballot to the count, but it kept the gap the same since that voter chose Peterson and Shear.
When Peterson was later asked by the auditor’s office if he would seek a recount, he courteously declined, and Shear was declared the winner.
He joins Myron “Tiger” Vail as the new city commissioners. They will be sworn into office during the June 28 regular city meeting.
