Dear Editor:
Thank God Bowman now has a police department who knows what they are doing. The people of Bowman better wake up and start cooperating with the police and sherrif’s departments sooner rather than later before another murder occurs. So many people seem to, after the tragedy, come forward with what they knew or suspected when it is to late. I suspect this has to do with fact they don’t want to get involved and become outcasts with the other residents, which of course they will because Bowman has always been a narrow-minded, head in the sand type of town.
I was raised in Bowman as was my whole family. None of us live there now. Our mother and (step)father) are dead, my oldest sister is dead, My younger sister and brother live away. I live in Dickinson, only because I came back to take care of my Mother before she died.
My brother, Rory Hoth was murdered August 3, 1989, six miles east of Bowman just off Hwy. 12 on the farm. His murder is a cold case (still 27 years later). People told everyone in the family at one time or another things they know or knew (and still do) but they have never gone to the authorities with their information. The family has informed athorities, but when these people were questioned they told a different story, in other words, were they lying to us or to the authorities? People sure like to gossip about it though as if they are in the know. Are they? I suppose some are.
When I read, first in the Dickinson paper, and today in the Bowman paper about this senseless murder of Nicholas Johnson my brothers murder came flooding back like it was just yesterday and I started shaking all over. Thank God they know who murdered Nicholas and have them in custody. Which brings up the fact that with the history of both suspects what were the courts thinking letting them have the run of the streets. Doesn’t this tell you that when it comes time to vote for these judges you’d better look at their history on the bench before you blindly vote for them.
Drugs, Alcohol, Guns, Violence, the streets are full of it. These people need to be put away forever. Drugs and alcohol(DUIs) are not diseases like the liberals would like you to believe. They are criminal activities which can lead to violence and murder in a lot of cases. When are you going to wake up PEOPLE! Get some guts and say, NO MORE! in my town. Ship all these criminals back to their own states and let them lock them up and spend their money instead of your tax dollars. After they are convicted of course which I admit is hard to to do in this state with our judges. If they are from ND well we have prisons to so what’s the problem?
My heart is breaking for the Johnson family. My prayers today are for the Johnson family. My hope is that you, Bowman, will do the right thing by this family. If you know something tell the authorities. You can also tell then if you know something about my brother’s murder. I have never been able to go to Bowman since 1989 without suspecting everyone I see and never will. Neither has anyone else in my family. I only seem to be able to go back to Bowman to attend funerals and once in a while my class reunion. Soon everyone I still know there will be gone or I will so I won’t have to go back anymore.
It sure would be nice to have closure on my brothr’s case. Remember both Nicholas and Rory in your prayers please.
