Bowman’s C-squad girls can ‘do it all’

What makes a really good cup of coffee? The coffee grounds, the water, the coffee machine….?

What makes a really good cup of coffee? The coffee grounds, the water, the coffee machine….? It takes all of those things for “good coffee.”

That is how I felt on Saturday. All of our parts/players worked together to have a good tournament. We played 12 girls throughout the tourney and every one of them did their job. We had three setters that played throughout the day: Abby Smyle, Jill Svihovec, and Shelby Schmalz.

These girls play all the way around and have to be able to pass, set and serve. They never grew tired and were great leaders on the floor. Our main back row players are Emily Belland and Emily Paulson. These two had great passes all day. They both took quite a few hard serves and were still able to negotiate a perfect pass.

They have grown leaps and bounds with their serving as well. My powerhouses in the middle position include: Chloe Janovsky, Katie Paulson and Ashlyn Dix. These three girls were absolute beasts at the net. They were busy hitting, tipping and blocking. The middle blockers have to run the show on the net, moving at all times to meet up with and outside hitters to set the blocks. Our outside hitter Gabby Madrigal really came out of her shell on Saturday. I have seen her hit and dig in practices, but she has remained somewhat timid in games, but not on Saturday. She was attacking the ball and providing coverage for our middles. It was great to see that in the game environment. We also have 3 girls that are utility players, Elyse Paulson Elise Fischer, and Kira Irons. These girls basically do it all. Sometimes they are back row, other times hitters/setter and yet other times they play all the way around. They shine in all the areas and are really versatile players. We like to keep the sharp in all facets of volleyball! They are so good to roll with whatever we need. All the girls made our day a “good volleyball team” day. I could not be more proud of these girls and all the team work which resulted in a Championship win.
