Bowman County 6, Grant County 20; Bulldogs now at 2-2 record

GRANT COUNTY — Last Friday night provided football fans with a first half of tough defense and a second half of sustained offensive drives that stalled, coupled with explosive plays that resulted in Grant County coming out on top of Bowman County in a 20-6 victory.
The Bulldog offense came out swinging with the third play of the game resulting in a nice 14 yard run by Brayden Jorgenson behind key blocks from Jacob Boehm, Adam Powell, Chance Andrews and Brian Anaya.
At the end of the first quarter the Bulldogs were stringing together a nice seven play drive, but a fumble on a pitch play stopped the drive on the Storm 19 yard line.
The next offensive series for the Bulldogs started out strong with a 10 yard pass, 8 yard run and 6 yard run, putting them in Storm territory once again. Unfortunately, the drive was stopped short by an interception.
The Bulldog defense kept them in the game by keeping the Storm out of the end zone for the first half even with two turnovers.
The first quarter resulted in Bowman County completing two first downs on 13 plays and Grant County with no first downs on 12 plays.
The second quarter was basically the same for the Bulldogs with two first downs on 13 plays and the Storm more than doubling their first quarter with four first downs on 26 plays.

Halftime resulted in a scoreless game.
Notable plays in the first half for the Bulldogs were a sack by Ben Phelps and assist by Nate Boehm that resulted in a 5 yard loss for the Storm and a fake punt by the Storm that didn’t fool the Bulldog defense and resulted in a zero gain and turn over on downs.
Grant County received the ball to start the second half, putting together a 5 play drive ending with Lane Wells breaking a 43 yard touchdown run. Giving the Storm a 6-0 lead.
The Bulldogs put together one of their best drives of the game with a 10 play – 57 yard march down the field.
Brayden Jorgenson had a 12 yard run on a toss behind a nice lead block from Adam Powell.
Two plays later Jorgenson ran for another 13 yards with help from Brian Anaya and Tristen Peterson leading the way with blocks.
Adam Powell made a leaping reception from Corban Massey for a 15 yard gain on a 4th and 5 play, keeping the drive alive.
The impressive drive ended with a 4th and goal with less than a yard needed, a pitch play resulted in a 5 yard loss and the Bulldogs turned the ball over on downs.
Four plays later the Bulldog defense would keep them in the game when Beau Jeffers recovered a loose ball giving it back to Bowman County on the Storm’s 29 yard line.
Two plays into the drive Matthew Osendorf ran for 21 yards on a toss with key blocking from Jacob Boehm, Adam Powell and Chance Andrews. The play took the ball down to the Grant County 5 yard line.
Two plays later Corban Massey connected with Brian Anaya for a 10 yard touchdown pass. Unfortunately, there was an ineligible lineman too far down field and the ball was taken back to the 15 yard line.
Another penalty pushed the Bulldogs back to the 20 and the offensive series would stall and return the ball to the Storm on downs.
Grant County would put together an 11 play drive behind a 23 yard run and a 19 yard touchdown run both by Lane Wells, putting the Storm up 12-0.
The Bulldogs came out throwing in the next series, 4 pass attempts with only one 11 yard completion from Corban Massey to Adam Powell. Grant County would get the ball back on downs on the Bulldog 37 yard line.
The Storm would drive the ball down to the 10, but the Bulldog defense would dig in with another big stop with key tackles from Corban Massey and Jacob Boehm, giving the ball back on downs.
Bowman County would throw the ball again the next series, 4 attempts with one 4 yard completion from Corban Massey to Brayden Jorgenson. Giving the ball back to the Storm on downs at the Bulldog 10-yard line.
Two plays later resulted in a 4-yard touchdown run by Connor Marion, the two-point conversion was successful putting the Storm up 20-0, with time running out in the 4th quarter.
Bowman County mounted an impressive 12 play – 64 yard drive.
Two passes from Corban Massey to Tristen Peterson for 8 yards and 9 yards.
Twelve-yard run by Brayden Jorgenson.
Six-yard pass from Corban Massey to Brian Anaya.
Eighteen-yard pass from Corban Massey to Adam Powell, followed by a five-yard touchdown reception to Adam Powell.
The two point conversion was no good and the score was 20-6 with time running out.
The Bulldogs attempted an on-side kick, but it was recovered by the Storm. The Storm took a knee on the ensuing play as the clock ran out.
The Bulldogs played excellent team defense with 12 players having one or more tackles, led by Corban Massey and Brayden Jorgenson each with 10.5 tackles. They also held Grant County’s powerful fullback to only 19 yards on eight carries.
