The Bowman County Cross Country team was glad to get back into racing mode. They traveled Sept. 24 to Black Sands Golf Course to tangle at the West Region Preview Meet. With five races slated for the day, bulldogs of all ages got a taste of the action.
The mighty mite race started the day of as elementary kids from grades two to six took on the mile course. Jeslyn Arpan led the charge for the young dawgs. She was closely followed by Bailey Peterson, Julie Sarsland, Raegen Honeyman, Kennedi Blankenbaker, Ryanne Kelly, and Emma Umbriet. The group of young runners did a great job as they got another taste of race action.
The Varsity boys were up next, where the favorited New Town Eagles were the only team to best the bulldogs. On the strength of four runners in the top 20, the bulldogs beat third place Beulah-Hazen by nine points. Andrew Miller led the way for the bulldogs capturing 8th place. Camden Wokal traced his every steps, finishing close behind in 10th. Mason Moran (13th) and Kamrin Madrigal (15th) also earned top 20 honors. Brian Miller rounded out the scoring for the bulldogs, and was followed by Ethan Fischer and Austin Richard.
The varsity girls once again made a statement, placing five runners in the top 20, and all eight varsity runners in the Top 27, as they captured the team title by 55 points over Watford CIty. The depth of the bulldogs once again stood out, as other west region teams had trouble breaking into the pack of dawgs. Lacey Feist resumed her role as leader of the pack, placing in 4th, behind her a slew of young bulldogs made some noise. Natalie Kempenich placed fifth, while Alexius Miller placed seventh. The Bartholomay sisters once again wrapped up the scoring while earning Top 20 honors, as Mikayla placed 14th and Abigail 20th. Jocelyn Kulseth (24th), Vanessa Fischer (25th), and Brooke Peterson (27th) provided the much needed depth for the bulldogs.
In the JV division, Brenna Wokal led the ladies team as she finished in 18th place, while Noah Wokal led the boys team. Next up for the Bulldogs will be a trip to Sturgis, as the Dawgs will battle their neighbors to the south at Fort Meade.
