Recently a gal came up to me to tell me she really likes my articles. Some say articles, some say stories, I say columns, but in the end it doesn’t really matter what you call it. Anyway, she said they are so relatable and noted some are sad, some are serious, but all enjoyable.
I treat this column like I do my facebook posts…like you’re a friend who is meeting me for a cup of coffee or tea and we try to fit in all the different aspects or observations of life into a short period of time. Many thoughts go unsaid or in this case unwritten. My thoughts are not any more important than yours, I just have the nerve (or stupidity) to write them down.
So here are my thoughts this week:
- My eye is still healing. One night I freaked out with so much discomfort that I tried pulling out my tear duct plug because I was convinced it was scraping my eyeball. I either got it out or broke off the end of it leaving part of it still inside. I honestly don’t know. And no, I don’t recommend anyone pulling out their own plug. It was a stupid thing to do at 2 a.m.
- I am partial to football. The local Bulldog announcer who brings us the play-by-plays is doing a mighty fine job and gets the crowd going! And have you noticed those girls leading the sideline cheers? Keep it up, ladies!! Love the school spirit! I attended my first Bowman Homecoming Pep Rally. A few minor adjustments with holding a microphone and us “old” people might be able to hear what’s going on. (Wink!)
- The sidewalk on 11th Avenue is spectacular! It’s not the most direct route to school for us, but it’s the safest especially with all the semis and trucks driving to and from the new hospital location. However, when we get to either Divide or the road just north of the football field, there are no sidewalks connecting 11th to the school. I hope there’s a plan to do so!
- Politics. Uffda. I rather not talk about it. Even my 10-year old is tired of talking about politics at school. I told him you eventually learn not to talk about it with others. Your vote is your vote and nobody else’s. No justification is needed.
- Rural Women in America was another splendid event even though I was plagued with eye discomfort after my eye incident above. After all the ladies I walked amongst, one gal came up to me fix my tag that was sticking out the back of my shirt. Thank you to that ONE lady who was kind enough to approach and fix!
- My garden was a disappointment. Between the bunnies eating the beans and possibly the peas, plants getting fried, some clay areas getting flooded (my neighbor waters often and I think some of it comes my way), and plants that just never popped up (even after seeding twice), we ended up with some baby carrots (I didn’t thin them), bitter cucumbers, a few tiny corn cobs and zucchini. Now the fun task of ripping stuff out and prepping for next year. Sigh…
- Remember my peanut butter, jelly and toothpaste column? Upon completion, my son immediately said, “We won’t even talk about the honey.” But honey has left it’s sticky residue all over our kitchen lately…on the peanut butter jar, on the cupboard shelving, on the counter, on the floor, and of course on the cupboard pulls. How can something so sweet and pure be so down right irritating?
Yep, it’s been quite the week around here. I’m thinking National Coffee Week should have be extended. And as far as gardening goes, one of my favorite sayings is “Who plants a seed beneath the sod and waits to see believes in God.”
