Hundreds of enthusiastic young students & volunteers will attend the Bowman County School Wednesday, Feb. 26, for the First Annual Bowman Marketplace for Kids Education Day.
Laura Weber; the Business Growth Coordinator at the Bowman County Economic Development, said “Marketplace for Kids is an exponential learning experience, providing active learning and most importantly cultivating the entrepreneurial spirit and we feel that these are important opportunities to bring to the youth in our region.”
The program targets grades three through eight but is open to all ages. Marketplace for Kids provides a variety of experiential learning classes and activities to help students develop innovation, enhance personal development, and explore career options.
The day will feature a wide array of classes including: “Electrical motors & electrical circuits” presented by Scott Halle - training & compliance administrator: ND state electrical board; “Snowmobile Safety Education” presented by Tony Hillig, Motorized Recreation Coordinator: ND Parks & Recreation Dept; “Lessons About Your Money” presented by Hannah Nordby, extension agent: Ndsu Extension; “Social Work” presented by Shonda Schwartz, director: Southwest Dakota Human Service Zone; “ND FSA talks Agriculture & Farm Safety” presented by Lavonne Wagener, county executive director: USDA-FSA Bowman County and “Intro To Diesel Tech” presented by Daniel Freitag, Diesel Technician: West Plains Inc. The Marketplace Advisory Leadership Team will be reviewing this year’s class reports from the students and use their advice to bring classes they would like presented next year.
Students will be showcasing their innovative ideas in the Hall of Great Ideas (in the Elementary Gym – Enter Door “B”) from 11:35 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. Everyone is invited to stop by and view the projects, visit with the students and encourage their creativity. Members from the Bowman County Economic Development, under the leadership of Teran Doerr, will be listening to business pitches from the project students and presenting ribbons to them.
The Bowman DECA/Honor Society/High School Students and Bowman area volunteers will be providing volunteer hours to make the Marketplace for Kids Education Day a success. These people are the eyes and ears in the classrooms and provide technical support.
Former North Dakota Department of Career and Technical Education Director, Wayne Kutzer (past member on the MFK Board of Directors): “The future of North Dakota’s economy – and the future of our nation’s economy lies in the entrepreneurial spirit of our children” said Kutzer. Marketplace for Kids encourages your students or children to develop their own ideas, share their creativity, and present them to an audience of all ages.
“Marketplace for Kids is proud of the leadership provided by teachers, administrators, parents and chaperones,” added Kutzer. “Thank you for creating the environment that enables our students to grow.”
